Sixth Annual Cankton Courir De Mardi Gras
Saturday, February 14, 2026
Landon Pitre Memorial Park
706 Main Street
Cankton, Louisiana 70584

It’s Carnival Time in Acadiana! Are you ready to do the Mardi Gras Mambo?
We had such a great time last year, Chief J. Brent Breaux of the Cankton Police Department has invited us back
again this year to celebrate Mardi Gras in his town. He has invited us to participate in their Courir De Mardi Gras,
AKA chicken run, on Saturday February 14 th, in Cankton. The Chief has allowed us to pull our own flatbed trailer in
the parade/chicken run and due to the generosity of Tammy Tate and Cassie Ware, we will have a flatbed with a
truck and a driver! In order to secure our spot in the parade we will need to be at Landon Pitre Memorial Park by
8:00 AM.
My suggestion is that we meet at Coffee Call on College Drive at 6:30 AM and plan to depart for Cankton at about
6:50 AM. (the drive is just over an hour)
There is a full day of activities as outlined below:
9:00 AM: Chicken Run Trail Riders depart Landon Pitre Memorial Park
9:00 AM: The music starts in the park as provided by a DJ. The chefs competing in the Gumbo Cook-off start their
preparation and cooking.
1:30 PM The gumbo judging will start
2:30-5:30 PM there will be live music by Dylan Aucoin and the Judice Ramblers
The Childrens’ chicken run will take place after the trail riders have returned to town.
There will be a general admission fee of $10.00 (proceeds go the Louisiana Special Olympics)
Also, Trail Riders are charged a $20.00 fee to ride and I assume that includes the photographers.
As with many of our events, sharing of our images would be appreciated for future publicity for this event or for
individual’s personal use. There will be a Google Drive available to share your images. Finally, costumes are
required but mask and capuchons are optional. It’s unclear if the photographers will be held to the same costume
standards but I do think it will be fun to show some Mardi Gras spirit and have a little fun.
If there are any questions please reach out to me.
Thanks,
Frank
